Independence Care System (ICS) operates a nonprofit Medicaid managed long-term care plan in New York City whose motto is: “Adults with Physical Disabilities Welcome Here.”
Specifically designed to assist Medicaid- and nursing home-eligible adults with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses, ICS works with our members to coordinate the health and social services they need to live independently and participate fully in community life. Fostering the engagement of our members in their own care is a critical element of the ICS care model.
In keeping with our program goals, ICS has designed several specialized services to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities, including:
- A Multiple Sclerosis Program, designated a “Center of Excellence” by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
- A Spinal Cord Injury Program, staffed by nurses and social workers skilled in wound prevention, urinary tract infections, and wheeled mobility.
- A pressure ulcer prevention and intervention team.
- A wheelchair fitting, purchase, and maintenance program—unmatched in NYC—featuring therapists, technicians, an evaluation room, a power ceiling lift, a dedicated repair shop, and a wheelchair “car wash.”
