WHO WE ARE

Independence Care System is a nonprofit organization in New York City committed to supporting people with disabilities to live independently. Physically disabled adults in New York City generally live within severe constraints in terms of available health and social services. The ICS approach to meeting their needs is based on three premises.

ICS’s mission is to take the prevailing approach that views the person with disabilities as a “problem consumer” who takes up too much time with unusual problems and turn it on its head: Each member of ICS plays a major role in determining his/her own needs and in managing his/her own care.
