Communications Intern

Do you want to learn about the communications challenges facing one of NYC’s leading nonprofits working with people with physical disabilities? Do you want to develop your web, electronic, written, photographic, video, marketing and promotional skills? Then this is the internship for you!
Position Overview:
This is a non-paid internship, based in Manhattan with some travel to the Bronx and Brooklyn.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct interviews/write articles/take photos and videos/help maintain mailing lists for print and electronic publications and the ICS website
- Update ICS social media sites (Twitter, Facebook etc.)
- Assist in the creation and production of marketing materials
- Write and distribute press releases regarding ICS events and news
- Contact media to pitch stories and follow up on press releases
- Assist in organizing and publicizing ICS special events
Qualifications:
- Excellent written communications skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Experience and/or comfort in working with people with disabilities
- Experience using Facebook and Twitter and other social media
- Knowledge of Word-based programs, website functionality, e-marketing programs, a plus
- Bilingual English/Spanish helpful
- Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) or Graduate student, with major in communications, marketing, health, or related field
